....here and there is all I can do whilst my crafty stash is boxed up and ready for the move!
Against my better judgement I retrieved the ironing board from its hiding place this morning (imagine!)
and before deciding to treat it to a new cover I pressed 4 plain white cotton napkins I snagged in a sale at Asda many moons ago. I've had this project in my head to do for an absolute age and it used so few products I decided that this was something I could do quickly, easily and without adding to the chaos that already is my dining room. I'll treat you to a photo of that some other day :)
Perhaps "quickly" was is a word I used too lightly, you see I needed to pick a few images on the Graphics Fairy Blog, and if you haven't visited before you must (but set aside a good hour or two there's so much to choose from - believe me!)
So to the ingredients:
Fabric napkins or serviettes (whatever you want to call them)
Lesley Riley's Transfer Artist Paper
Gorgeous images to transfer
Inkjet Printer
Iron and board
Photoshop or equivalent
See, very little - ta dah!
I chose 2 designs from Karen's blog along the patisserie/cafe theme and saved the "reverse images" which is important if they have text.
I resized them in photoshop and printed out a test sheet onto regular paper. I normally skip boring steps like this because I'm in too much of a hurry, but trust me the TAP is too expensive waste :o (but worth every penny if used correctly, the image transfers so easily onto fabric!)
Cut around each image close to the edge then place on your napkin and apply a hot non steaming iron for a few seconds holding still. Peel the edge slightly to see what's happening under there, if it's not adhered apply more iron (if you heat it for too long it will yellow) ahem I wonder how I know this!!!
Et Voila!
I was so delighted I raced to Dunelm & Homebase in the hope of hunting down some more plain napkins at a reasonable price but alas none this time, so I bought the ironing board cover instead *rolls eyes*
It's sort of cute don't you think? It has got buttons on it lol!
Take care for now

ReplyDeleteLoads and loads of lovely real vintage white napkins on ebay - its where I got mine for the wedding... (and then laundered, ironed and sold them again)... pennies my dear, pennies (and some lovely ones with lace and all sorts.... sad now though that I got rid of them otherwise I would have been image transferring like a mad bird... glad move is coming together
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up Caroline, off to while away a few hours then!!!

ReplyDeleteYour napkins turned out beautifully! Great job! My stack of napkins are still in the closet gathering dust. Hopped over from Brag Monday and I'm happy to be your newest follower. Would love to have you stop by for a visit and follow me back if you wish. Blessings ~ Judy @ www.vintagestreetdesigns.com
