Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Mushroom and Leek Tart

Yesterday Mum & I bought some Purple Sprouting Broccoli......

Now what? Soup? Plain old boil it and serve with meat and potato?
It was time to try something new.
We (well I) have pledged to make use of all the cookery books we own more often.
That being said it was far easier to grab the iPad and google broccoli to see what was suggested, love it!

Mum came across this one by Celia Brooks Brown on the BBC Good Food site.
Mmmmm we had puff pastry and most of the ingredients that were required
although not all, so now we have a new recipe with our own added extras that we're sharing here today!

Say Hello to our Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Mushroom and Leek Tart.

Ingredients

1 pack Purple Sprouting Broccoli
7 or 8 Mushrooms
2 Leeks
1 portion of Puff Pastry
1 egg
2 egg yolks
1Tbsp Cream Cheese
Splash of Milk
Cup of Grated Parmesan
Handful of Grated Cheddar
Salt & Pepper
Worcestershire Sauce
Olive Oli
Sprinkling of Polenta

serves 4

Pre heat oven to 180 or 200 fan.
Wrap a baking sheet with baking/greaseproof paper
Sprinkle with a small amount of Polenta.

Roll out the Puff Pastry 0.5cm thick into whatever shape your heart desires, mine was a slightly wonky square, it fitted the baking sheet so that was ok by me.
Score a line 2cm from the edge, prick the inside with a fork and transfer it to the baking sheet.

Gently fry your sliced mushrooms and leeks in a spot of olive oil adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce for about 5 minutes. The aroma of the W.Sauce makes even your 10 year old get excited for dinner time. But only for the few seconds until he realises it's leeks and mushrooms...sigh!
Spread the veg onto the pastry evenly up to the scored line.

Pop into the oven for 10 minutes. The edges will rise wonderfully.

Meanwhile blanch the brocolli for a minute of so, then refresh with cold water.
Whisk together the eggs, cream cheese, milk, parmesan and seasoning in a bowl.

Layer the broccoli over the leeks and mushroom after their 10 minute blast.
Lower the oven to 160 or 180 Fan.
Spoon over the eggy mixture and sprinkle extra cheddar on the top

Pop back into the oven for another 20 mins after which time you should have a bubbly slightly brown cheesiness going on - yum!

We ate this with salad :)
 ....and wine

Enjoy!

Down and down and Frozen!

No not me! I'm feeling "up, up, up" at the moment and it's 15C so not too chilly!

"Down" was (yes, you guessed it!) yesterday's #photooftheday and I have two entries to share
The first is a shot looking down our stairs. I'll miss these stairs

The second is of one of our cats (Twix - don't ask!) who followed and tripped me up for a good hour yesterday afternoon whilst waiting for his afternoon biscuits. Having me home all day is confusing their body clocks I think!

Yesterday I was a good wifey and made a batch of freezer meals for Jim, as we're away from Monday. Complete with cooking instructions as requested :)

I'd best get on and make some more. I think he might not want Penne Bolognese 4 nights in a row! Some sort of curry concoction today.
Later I'm off to see Julie! Looking forward to seeing her and her new crafty home. Whilst she hasn't quite moved in yet I can't wait for a nosey! LilyPie Paints etc can be found in Chart Sutton, nr Maidstone, Kent. I'm so gonna have to put blinkers on when I walk past the Annie Sloan Paints!

Have a great day!

Today, well yesterday actually

Yesterday's #photoadayaug was "Today" as in yesterday, oh dear!
Anyhoo, yesterday whilst talking to my good buddy Mireille we were discussing wine or rather the lack of in my house ~ shudder! It was yet another warm day so I ventured under the stairs where our small stash of spirits are and discovered a small bottle of Citrus Vodka - perfect to marry with the Mango & Passionfruit smoothie in the fridge. This with ice I can't recommend enough, so here's my recipe recap!!!

Enjoy!

In other news we did some more foody shopping, all will be revealed next week ;)

Take care for now

More Borough Market

The Rabot Estate Chocolate shop was to die for, in terms of product and decor. Such a shame we couldn't buy anything, it would have melted within 30 minutes.

We tasted & shopped for Cheese and Sausages in the Jubilee Market

and croissants for this mornings breakfast

just look at the size of those muffins!

The juice stands were so busy!

A quick peek in Neal's Yard Dairy

and then next door to  Gelateria 3Bis where Kieran must have tasted the whole range before deciding on strawberry & lemon sorbet (with chocolate sauce from the tap!)

Still going!.....

Then to
Spanish Food Specialist's Brindisa - heaven!
(they have an online shop too)

We had lunch at Fish Restaurant which was ok, to be honest we would have preferred to grab a bite at one of the stalls but we were so hot and tired we needed to sit. So we duly paid over the odds for an ok lunch, never mind!

After the market we had a swift drink on the side of the Thames next to the Golden Hind at the Old Thameside Inn before trudging back the car with tummies and bags bulging

stopping off only to get a few shots of the Shard & to grab a Caramel Frappucino ;)

A Fabulous Day :)

London's Borough Market

Yay! Happy Day for me!
I finally got to visit Borough Market in Southwark London.
It was such a lovely day, the sun shone it it was at least 30 degrees C - phew!

The first photo also doubles as my #photoadayaug - Inside
Inside this bun is a BRT
(bacon, rocket & tomato with mustard mayo)

Breakfast buns at Maria's Market Cafe
Deeeeelicious!

But wait! Before that Kieran had already scoffed an amazing Smoked Toulouse Sausage on a stick.....

and tasted some chicken curry!

A few random shots of slurpiness

Hungry yet?!
I'll post more photos in the next post.
Blogger seems to have had enough.
